Job Title: Women’s Shelter Advocate
Full-time or Part-time Status: Full-time and Part-time available
Location: Shelter (Confidential)
Schedule: Evening shift, 3pm-11:30pm; FT: Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday; PT: several schedules available
Salary:Â $35,000 -$45,000 annually for FT; $19/hr+ for PT
Who We Are:
Saint Martha’s is a St. Louis nonprofit program that provides shelter, resources, and compassionate care for women and children experiencing domestic violence. Our programs include shelter services, a drop-in center, and community education.  As a ministry of Catholic Charities of St. Louis, we are proud to share in their mission, vision, and values.
Position Summary:
The role of the Women’s Shelter Advocate is to work as part of a team of advocates to support and empower women as they work to build a new life, free from violence. Using a trauma-informed lens, this position works directly with women in shelter to provide crisis intervention, community referrals, basic necessities, and help maintain a clean and safe environment for residents. Specific duties include:
• Responding to immediate needs of shelter residents
• Completing intakes, assisting residents with goal progress, providing safety and support to residents healing from domestic violence
• Answering our crisis hotline and providing crisis intervention and referrals to callers and in person
• Assisting with cleaning, organizing, putting away donations, and other necessary tasks

Candidates must have valid driver’s license and insurance, as well as a working vehicle. Successful candidates for this position will be:
·        flexible and adaptive,

·        understanding of diverse populations and could work with and learn from others outside of their own culture,
·        willing to collaborate and make decisions as part of a team,
·        good with building rapport with others,
·        able to remain calm in crisis situations,

·        dedicated to a future where domestic violence is no longer a threat to women and their children,
·        knowledgeable of or willing to learn the dynamics of gender-based violence and intersectionality.

Saint Martha’s, a safe place for women fleeing domestic violence and their children, is currently hiring for the following positions: PRN/fill-in women’s shelter advocates (as needed, generally shifts would be Saturdays and Sundays either 7am-3:30pm or 3pm-11:30pm, with potential weekday, overnight, and holiday shifts available) PT overnight women's shelter advocate (Saturday and Sunday, 11pm-7:30am) The role of the Women’s Shelter Advocate is to support and empower women as they work to build a new life, free from violence. Using a trauma-informed lens, this position works directly with women in shelter to provide crisis intervention, community referrals, basic necessities, and help maintain a clean and safe environment for residents. These positions would include the following duties: Responding to immediate needs of shelter residents Answering crisis hotline to provide crisis intervention and necessary referrals to callers Assisting with cleaning and organizing the shelter as time allows Being available for any current needs in the shelter during shift Saint Martha’s offers equitable pay commensurate with the work required. These positions are eligible to participate in a 403(b) retirement plan, utilize an EAP, and attend a variety of trainings offered at no cost to Catholic Charities federation employees. Knowledge of issues impacting women and the dynamics of gender-based violence preferred. Successful candidates for this position will be flexible, empathetic, willing to work as part of a team, able to build rapport, understand healthy boundaries, and dedicated to the work of breaking the cycle of domestic violence.
